ALBERT NAPOLEON J. ROLDAN started taking piano lessons at the age of 4, when his first piano was just an imaginary keyboard on a sofa armrest. He finished his baccalaureate degree (Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, magna cum laude) from the University of the Philippines College of Music. He also completed his Master’s degree in Piano Performance at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Presently he works as a staff pianist of the U.P. College of Music, Diliman.

Albert has performed widely for the past 23 years, in different venues such as the Abelardo Hall in UP Diliman, St. Cecilia’s Hall in St. Scholastica Manila, Philamlife Auditorium, Fleur-de-lis Auditorium in St. Paul’s Manila, The Discovery Suites, Cultural Centre of the Philippines, Bayanihan Hall of United Laboratories, Molina Hall of BDO (formerly PCIBank) Tower, the UP Vargas Museum, Benpres Museum, GSIS Museum, Council Rock High School-New Jersey, Greenhills Christian Fellowship Ortigas, Concert at the Park, Paco Park Presents, Shangri-la Makati and the Asian Theological Seminary. He has collaborated with three orchestras, one of them the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer (2002), on AM radio (DZUP) and on national television (PTV 4). Recently, he successfully launched a summer music camp for different instruments at Antipolo, Rizal, a first in that city.

He has also joined in various competitions:
-NAMCYA (Nat’l. Competition for Young Artists) (Category A-1), 1998 – 4th Prize
-University of the Philippines College of Music Piano Competition 2005 –1st Prize
-University of the Philippines College of Music Piano Competition 2008 – 3rd Prize
-NAMCYA (Category C) 2010 – 2nd Prize
-Philippine delegate to the 7th Seoul International Piano Competition 2011, South Korea
Albert was also a recipient of several scholarships such as the UP MUSARFOUND scholarship, the Dr. Romy Protacio Achievement Award, and was also a recipient of a joint grant from the AIG (American International Group) and IIE (International Institute of Education). He also had various master classes under esteemed piano artists such as Cecil Licad (Curtis Institute of Music), Reynaldo Reyes (Towson University), Aima Labra Makk (University of Music, Graz, Austria), Regalado Jose (Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore), Aries Caces (Hochschule fur Musik, Graz), Albert Tiu (National University of Singapore), Roberta Rust (Lynn Conservatory), Victor Goldberg (Peabody Conservatory), and Lydia Artymiw (University of Minnesota).

He is a founding member of the UP Tiklado, an organization of pianists whose aim is to make classical music more available to the public.

He dreams of bringing piano music out of expensive concert halls and closer to a wider audience.
