UP Arco Brings Home the Gold from the 2nd Music Festa Florence

On March 15-17, 2016, the UP ARCO under the baton of Prof. Edna Marcil “Michi” Martinez participated in the 2nd Music Festa Florence in Florence, Italy. The Music Festa Florence is a great initiative sponsored and organized by the Florence International Choir Festival dedicated to young musicians from all over the world and is open to young singers and instrumentalists. Participants of the festival were all given the opportunity to perform in several of the most significant places in the city including the Church of San Filippo Neri, Basilica of Santa Trinita, Church of Ognissanti, and the Auditorium Folco Portinari which served as one of the competition venues.

It is with great pride that the UP Arco not only brought home the Gold Medal in the String Orchestra category, but was also recognized with the Special Jury Award for Best Musical Interpretation. The award was personally given by Federico Bardazzi, president and artistic director of the festival. Janine Samaniego, concert master of the UP ARCO, was also given a prize as the best female soloist.

After the festival, the UP Arco gave two more concerts for the Filipino communities in Italy: The first took place in the Auditorium Centro de André, Inzago and was marked by the attendance of Ms. Marichu Barredo Mauro, the Consul General to the Philippine Consulate in Milan, Italy. The second concert took place in the Auditorium Stefano Cerri, in Milan.
