Alegria Ocampo Ferrer graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Music with a Masteral Degree Major in Voice and Minor Studies in Theater Arts. She also finished twenty one units of subjects in the Master of Music Major in Education Program. Ferrer also studied at the Mozarteum Hochschule für Musik and the University of Salzburg in Salzburg, Austria, where she finished a two-year scholarship in Music and the German language.

Ms. Ferrer’s lead roles in opera include Euridice in Orpheus and Euridice (Glück), Mimi in La Boheme (Puccini), Violetta in La Traviata (Verdi), Lakme in Lakme (Delibes), Woman in La Voix Humaine (one woman one-act opera by Poulenc), Anastacia in Mayo, Bisperas ng Liwanag (Paguio), La Loba in La Loba Negra (Feliciano), Melissande in Pelleas et Melissande (Debussy), Mother in Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck) and Woman in Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night (Argento).

As a stage actress, Ms. Ferrer essayed the roles of Lady Macbeth in Macbeth (Shakespeare), Ghost of Cherry in Sakurahime (Juan Jr.) , Phaedra in Phaedra (Racine), Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare), and Hannah in Mary Stuart (Schiller).

As stage director, Alegria was at the helm in Rusalka (Dvorak), The Magic Flute (Mozart), Dialogues of the Carmelites (Poulenc), Ms. Havisham’s Wedding Night (Argento), Hand of Bridge (Barbers), Gipsy Love (Lehar), Andres Bonifacio: Ang Dakilang Anakpawis (Jerry Dadap), Ang Pagbabalik ng Hari (Fr. James Reuter), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (W.A. Mozart), Legend of M (Marya Makiling at ang mga Nuno sa Punso), and major productions of the U.P. College of Music such as AHA@50 (Golden Anniversary of the Abelardo Hall Auditorium), Messiah 2011 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium and MESSIAH 2013 at the U.P. Theater, and music director of RADO SWITZERLAND's World of Music and the 3rd Quezon City International Film Festival in 2015, among many others.

Alegria is an ALIW AWARDS Hall of Fame awardee in the Female Classical Category, a University of the Philippines Artist 1 recipient for the years 2013-2016, a Professorial Chair awardee in 2014, Recognized as "One of UP's Most Productive Artists" in 2016, an exhibitor during UP's First Knowledge Festival "Utak at Puso para sa Bayan" in April 2016, and is included in the 2015 Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Encyclopedia.

She was the first official Artistic Director of the Abelardo Hall Auditorium and former Chair of the Voice, Music Theater, and Dance Department of the U.P. College of Music. Ferrer will undergo an intensive Italian summer opera program in June until August 2016 and will have an international debut as a stage director in Arezzo, Italy via George Frederic Handel's opera ALCINA. Alegria is concurrently writing her dissertation in Doctor in Public Administration program.

Professor Ferrer is currently teaching at the U.P. College of Music and continues to give workshops and lectures on singing and performance, opera, values in music education, and fora in the comparative arts.
