Soprano and Music Educator, December (Daisy) Ragragio-Valenciano, began her singing career as a member of the renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers. She started voice lessons under the tutelage of her mother, Pilar Mella, the first in the Philippines to sing the role of Mercedes of Bizet’s opera “Carmen”. At UP, Daisy continued to improve her craft under Prof. Andrea O. Veneracion, and later on with the Philippines’ foremost baritone, Elmo Makil. Daisy’s singing career brought her to perform with local and foreign artists such as flautist Sonny Yangco, pianist Mauricia Borromeo, Austrian violinist Cornelius Schmaderer, German cellist Thomas Wuerth, and Dutch pianist Francesca Laursen.

Daisy is also a busy and passionate Music Educator. Other than being a faculty member of the Music Education Department of the UP College of Music, she also gives regular workshop-seminars on classroom music teaching methods to elementary and high school music teachers all over the country. She serves as Music Curriculum Consultant to schools such as the Philippine Science High School system and other international schools. Furthermore, she has authored several works on Music Education.

Like Pope Francis, Daisy firmly believes that “reality is superior to ideas”.
