Fun with Music free workshops featuring the Orff approach

  • Last September 4, 2015 from 10 am to 12 noon, one hundred and twenty seven teachers and students from the UP College of Music, College of Education, College of Home Economics, music education students of Adventist University of the Philippines accompanied by their professors, Nery Beratio and Jewel Solidum as well as teachers from Marist School, Miriam College, St. Scholastica's College Manila and Berea School attended the first of two Fun with Music free workshops featuring the Orff approach at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium. The Orff workshop was conducted by Dr. Edna Aurora Culig, a visiting professor of music education who got her phd degree from the University of Colorado and Orff Certificate from the University of Northwestern Colorado under Prof. Liz Keefe.
  • The attendees performed multicultural action songs and singing games, speech and body percussion, bourdoun playing using the instrumentarium and recorder, and creative improvisation using poetry and music. The Music Education Department faculty and the Junior Music Educators' Guild (JMEG) led by its president, Via Tabayoyong, in cooperation with the Office of the Dean organized the event in celebration of the 99th college anniversary and the music education department's 48th anniversary. Prof. Jocelyn Guadalupe, chair of the department along with other the UP College of Music faculty, Prof. Sherla Najera, Mam Daisy Valenciano, and Prof. Carolyn Cheng presented the certificate of appreciation to Dr. Culig at the end of the successful workshop.   • he next free workshop entitled Music is Fun is scheduled on September 18 from 10 am to 12 noon and will be conducted by Dr. Bethel Schnitzlein from Innsbruck, Austria.
