SEADOM in the College

  • Some 67 participants from 15 different countries visited the College from 27-29 March 2015 for the congress of the Southeast Directors of Music (SEADOM). The association is made up of heads of tertiary level music schools and related music institutions in the Southeast Asian region and is aimed 1) To promote cooperation at regional level and represent the interests of the professional music training sector in Southeast Asia, 2) Celebrate the richness and diversity of music in the region, 3) Promote the role and importance of professional music training in Southeast Asian societies, 4) Provide a platform for sharing of expertise, developments and best practices at institutional, national and regional levels, and 5) Encourage exchange and collaborations between institutions and nations.

    At the helm of the organization are SEADOM president Professor Bernard Lanskey
    Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of the National University of Singapore and SEADOM founder Associate Professor Dr. Sugree Charoensook of the College of Music, Mahidol University
    Bangkok, Thailand.

    The event was highlighted by an awesome performance of the UP Symphonic Band, under the baton of Rodney Ambat, playing the complete suite of Gustav Holst's The Planets and a dinner concert in the UP Executive House on 28 March where UP Tugma, UP Rondalla, and UP Jazz Ensemble demonstrated their musical skills. Representing the three streams of Philippine music--indigenous, Hispanic, and American--the event was an unforgettable evening in which the diversity of Philippine music was emphasized. Dr. de la Pena and Asst. Prof. Joycelyn Guadalupe hosted the show.
