Musicking 2.0

  • Eleven teacher participants of the UP CMEP Continuing Education for Music Teachers Levels I and II performed last May 16, 2015 at the Abelardo Hall in culmination of the month-long training in music theory, music literature, pedagogy, music technology, and applied music performance. Dean Jose Buenconsejo opened the program by giving the introductory remarks. Aside from solo performances in voice, piano, saxophone, and guitar, the teachers also performed patteteg, gangsa, kulintangan, gamelan, anklung, recorder consort, piano duets, guitar duets, and rondalla. The participants ended the performance with lively folk dances and an acapella choral number. Aside from the musicianship classes, the teachers were able to complement their training by observing rehearsals of music groups based in the college as well as attending student recitals and college performances. Level II participants also participated in an NCCA and UPD OC funded three-day immersion and Cordillera Field School organized by the UP Center for Ethnomusicology. The participants were given certificates of participation by Dr. Jose Buenconsejo and Prof. Joy Guadalupe together with CEMT faculty Dr. Michelle Nicolasura (keyboard), Mr. Emman Jamisolamin (guitar), Mr. Emman De Leon (conducting and choir), and Ms. Jeng Lipana (wind ensemble).
