Continuing Education for Music Teachers: Joys of Musicking in the College

  • The College congratulates the 11 music teachers from different parts of the Philippines who successfully completed the intensive, one-month, comprehensive, summer music training program, Level 1, meant to advance their music skills, individually and in ensemble, and upgrade their knowledge on music theory, Western art music history, and traditional Philippine music. These music teachers are

  • For the duration of the program, which was held daily, five times a week for four weeks, they were taught by lecturers of the College such as Raissa Odi (music theory), Lisa Decenteceo (music history), Daisy Valenciano (pedagogy), Ma. Lourdes Matute (Kulintangan), Tusa Montes (Kalinga), Eman de Leon (Choral Conducting), Therese Pitogo (Piano), among others. Prof. Jocelyn Guadalupe, Chair of the Department of Music Education, was responsible for designing and managing this continuing education program that is tailored to the needs of music teachers who are teaching music in elementary and secondary classrooms in the country. The program, an extension service of the College, has been envisioned to uplift the standards and quality of pre-collegiate music education in the Philippines.
