Memorial Concert for Nita Abrogar Quinto

  • The College held a memorial concert on 3 March 2014 at Abelardo Hall Auditorium for its outstanding piano professor Nita Abrogar Quinto, pianist and pedagogue, who passed away on 26 February 2014.

Prof. Quinto was noted for her performances as concert pianist and teacher who had produced many excellent pianists who won in national competitions. She was a dedicated teacher who continued to teach after undergoing intensive treatment from cancer since 2010. Colleagues closest to her such as Profs. K Molina, P Silvestre, A Ferrer, M Martinez, and J Velasco rendered eloquent recollections of Quinto's life and character, while emeriti professors Fides Cuyugan-Asencio and Ramon Santos gave testimonies to her outstanding musicianship.

Three groups in the College such as Philippine Madrigal Singers, UP Dance Company, and UP Arco offered performance numbers, while Quinto's piano students Miguel Aspiras and April Misa played heart-rending piano music for their beloved teacher.

The memorial ended with responses from Nita Quinto's brothers and her daughter Yna. Prof. Quinto's remains is now buried in Arlington Cemetery, Caloocan.
