AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

DANCE

1. 2-3 years of serious ballet training from a recognized school

2. Girls must dance on pointe shoes (toe shoes)

COMPOSITION

1. Two (2) original composition in written form

2. Sight-reading proficiency

3. Dictation

PERCUSSION

1. Selection from RUBANK Elementary and Intermediate Methods or any other Methods

2. Fundamental strokes for drum

3. Sight-reading proficiency

PIANO

1. Scales & Arpeggios, 4 Octaves (Major & Minor Keys);

2. One work by J.S. BACH chosen from the Two or Three Part Inventions, the 48 Prelude & Fugues, Toccatas, Partitas, or the English & French Suites;

3. A Virtuosic Etude chosen from Czerny, Op.299 (except Nos. 1-5), Chopin (except Op.10 #3, Op.10 #6, Op.25 #7), Liszt, Rachmaninoff (except Op.33 #7, Op.39 #2), Scriabin (except Op.2 #1), Prokofiev, or Debussy;

4. One fast movement of a 3-movement Classical Sonata by Haydn, Mozart (except K.545), Beethoven (except Op. 49, Nos. 1-2), or Schubert;

5. A work chosen freely by the applicant, preferably a work from the 19th or 20th Centuries;

6. A work will be given to the applicant during the audition for sight reading proficiency. Entire program should be played from memory.

VOICE

1. One song from the Italian Anthology Bk I*

2. One Kundiman song (Abelardo, Santiago, Cuenco, San Pedro or F. de Leon)

3. Knowledge of sigh-treading

MUSIC EDUCATION

1. Sing a capella

2. Sing another song while accompanying oneself with any accompanying instrument (like guitar or piano)

      1. All major scales and arpeggios in three octaves

      1. Major scales in two octaves (open position only): C, G, D, A, E
      2. Harmonic minor scales in two octaves (open position only): c, g, d, a, e

     A. Violin
        One (1) movement (with cadenza) of a concerto by Bach, Haydn, or Mozart, and one (1) contrasting piece or etude by Kayser, Dont or Kreutzer


    B. Viola
         Two (2) contrasting movements of a standard concerto or sonata and an etude by Kayser, Dont or Kreutzer

    C. Cello
         Two (2) contrasting movements of a standard concerto or sonata and an etude by Dotzauer


    D. Double Bass
        Two (2) contrasting pieces of applicant’s choice, and two (2) orchestral excerpts.

    E. Guitar (for SY 2018-2019 only)
        Four (4) guitar studies (must be played by memory)

 2. Choose one (1) study from the following:
        a. Pagsasanay by Rjay Conception
        b. Study in E Major by Mark Echague
