On November 26, 2020, the Friends for Cultural Concerns of the Philippines (FCCP) turned over 17 brand new Lenovo Chromebooks to the College of Music for distribution to student scholars in order to aid them in the technical requirements of remote learning. In a very simple turn-over ceremony in front of the José Maceda Hall, representatives from FCCP and the College of Music formalized the acceptance of the units to be distributed. Representing FCCP were Mr. Martin Lopez (Chairman of the FCCP Scholarship Committee) and Ms. Angie Godoy (FCCP Executive Officer/Secretariat), while the UP College of Music was represented by Prof. Nathan Manimtim (Officer-in-charge and co-chair of UPCMu Scholarship Committee), Dr. Arwin Q. Tan (UPCMEP Coordinator and co-chair of UPCMu Scholarship Committee), Dr. Laverne C. dela Peña (former Dean of the College), and Ms. Eva Cadiz Garcia (CMu Administrative Officer).
FCCP has been a stable partner of the College of Music through scholarships provided to music students since 2010. In the necessary move towards remote learning this semester (First semester 2020-2021), many students, faculty, and staff have been faced with the unprecedented challenge to shift to the online mode of communication and delivery of services, primarily education. It is in this regard that FCCP initiated a campaign to raise funds in order to purchase and distribute gadgets to aid the students of the College of Music in the basic transmission of education. This is in addition to their regular scholarship program which benefits five to six students per semester by providing them with a generous stipend.
To facilitate the distribution of the 17 units, FCCP has assigned the UP College of Music Extension Program which has been in charge of its scholarship plan, in close collaboration with the College of Music Scholarship Committee. The distribution shall begin in the second semester of school year 2020-2021 and current FCCP scholars are given priority as recipients of the gadgets. Remaining gadgets will be distributed to other students/faculty members who will be determined by the Scholarship Committee with their new guidelines and procedures specifically designed for these units. The Chromebooks will be distributed on an on-loan basis and these have to be returned, in good condition, to the UPCMEP at the end of each semester. The UPCMEP shall furnish the FCCP with a semestral report indicating the recipients of the units, and the eventual turnover of each of the 17 Lenovo Chromebooks.
