Alegria O. Ferrer is an Associate Professor in Voice and Music Theater at the University of the Philippines College of Music, Diliman, Quezon City. She graduated from there with a Master’s Degree in Music- Major in Voice and Minor Studies in Theater Arts. For a two-year scholarship in Music and the German language, she studied at the Mozarteum Hochschule für Musik and the University of Salzburg, Austria. Alegria obtained her Doctor in Public Administration from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Professor Ferrer tackles numerous disciplines in the arts: A U.P. College of Music faculty, an international opera and production stage director, an international classical singer and actor, a culture and the arts special television host, a brand ambassadress, and a Doctor in Public Administration.

In 2016, she joined the Oberlin University in Italy summer program and the Arezzo Opera Festival as an honorary faculty and opera stage director of George Frederic Handel's opera, Alcina. She returned to Italy and directed Handel's opera, Serse (2017 and another Handelian opera, Ariodante (2018).

Alegria holds the honor of being the first ALIW AWARDS (a national award giving body for live entertainment) Hall of Fame awardee in the Female Classical Category-having won the prestigious awards three times , thrice a finalist in the best director in the “Best Director in a Musical” Category of ALIW AWARDS, a One U.P. Faculty Grant awardee, twice a University of the Philippines System Artist 1 recipient, a Professorial Chair awardee in 2014 and 2018, recognized as "One of UP's Most Productive Artists" in 2016, an exhibitor during UP's First Knowledge Festival "Utak at Puso para sa Bayan" in April 2016, is featured in the 2018 Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Encyclopedia of the Arts 2nd Edition under the Music Category, and a One U.P. Professorial Grant Awardee.

As an opera stage director, Ferrer has staged 14 full length operas and musicals.

Alegria is a One U.P. Faculty Grant awardee and has been recognized as “One of UP's Most Productive Artists" (2016) and twice a UP System Artist Awardee. She is featured in the 2018 Cultural Center of the Philippines(CCP) Encyclopedia of the Arts (2nd edition) in the Music category.

The Philippine Consul General Ad Honorem in Florence, Confederazione Comunita Filippina Toscana and Pilipino Immigrantes National Organization in Arezzo, Italy gave her recognition “for her accomplishments as an International Artist, bringing honor and pride to the country and fellow Filipinos” on August 25, 2018.

Alegria presented in international conferences in Australia (Australian Music Therapy Association), Thailand (Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music), and Germany (Streaming Classical Music and Opera) in 2020.

She served as the first official Artistic Director of the Abelardo Hall Auditorium and was a Chair of the Voice, Music Theater, and Dance Department of the U.P. College of Music.
