Dr. Marie Jocelyn Marfil is an Associate Professor at the University of the Philippines College of Music, Composition and Theory Department. She is also the Coordinator of the Associate in Arts, Music Program. Her compositions have been performed in international conferences and festivals such as the Osmose Music Festival (Belgium), China-ASEAN Music Festival (China), Asian Music Festival (Japan), Southeast Asia Music Education Exchange (Malaysia), International Composers’ Forum and Competition (Ukraine), Asian Composers’ League Conference and Festival (Vietnam), Composers’ Forum (New Hampshire, USA), and Hawaii International Conference of Arts and Humanities (USA).

Her paper has also been presented in conferences, such as the Hawaii International Conference of Arts and Humanities; University of Tennessee Contemporary Music Festival; University of South Florida New-Music Festival and Symposium; Center for Philippine Studies 2019 Conference, University of Hawaii; Penn State 2021 New-Music Festival and Symposium, University of Pennselvannia School of Music; Southeast Asia Music Education Exchange Conference (Malaysia), Philippines National Conference; China-ASEAN Music Festival (China); Association for Asian Studies (Thailand), Southeast Asian Studies in Asia (Taiwan), She is also a multi-awarded film music composer, where most of the films she scored were shown in various international film festivals. She won the Best Original Score in the Gawad Urian Award, Manila Film Festival, and Philippine Movie Press Club. She also won the Best Theme song in the Manila Film Festival.

Besides teaching, she is also a passionate bandurria player, where she is a member, composer, arranger and faculty adviser of the University of the Philippines Rondalla. Recently, the UP Rondalla conducted lectures, workshops and concerts in Hawaii under her leadership as an Artistic Director. Dr. Marfil holds the degrees of Bachelor of Music (Cum Laude) and Master of Music in Composition (University of the Philippines), Master of Arts in Music Theory as a Fulbright Scholar (State University of New York), and PhD in Music Composition (University of Hawaii).
