Eight (8) units of Physical Education (PE) are required of all undergraduate students with the following exceptions:
   1. members of the ROTC Band (required to take only 2 PEs);
   2. members of the Rayadillo;
   3. students 30 years old or older;
   4. students who hold the Associate in Arts title (or equivalent) or a Bachelor’s degree;
   5. veterans of the armed forces, navy, or air force; and
   6. students who have served on a full-time basis for at least two (2) years in the armed forces, navy, or air force.
Students who fall under # 1 or 2 need DMST Certification. On the other hand, students who fall under #3, 4, 5, or 6 need to request a Certificate of PE Exemption at the College of Human Kinetics (CHK). Please note that students who have earned their pre-baccalaureate
or baccalaureate degree at UP Diliman or another UP constituent university need NOT apply for PE crediting or exemption.
Another way to earn PE credits is to take and pass the Proficiency Examinations in Physical Education (PEPE). Students may take proficiency examinations in one (1) or more courses to meet the PE
requirements. The examination is given twice a year, i.e., before the start of every semester. Students may inquire at the CHK Department of Physical Education regarding the schedule and requirements of PEPE.
The procedure below is for students who would like to earn PE credit or exemption through other means aside from PEPE.
Qualification | The student falls in any of the six categories mentioned above. |
Processing period |
For students under category #1 or 2, processing time at CMu is as soon as they finish their NSTP ROTC 1 and 2; for students under category #3, 4, 5, or 6, processing time at CMu is preferably during their first year at CMu.
Processing time at DMST or CHK depends on these offices’ own timetables. |

Advance Credit Without Validation is a procedure in which a transfer student applies courses he/she took from his/her previous university to be credited in lieu of required UP Diliman courses. In this procedure,
the student does not go through a validation exam; rather the offering unit evaluates the courses that the student is applying for credit. If the offering unit approves and the student finishes the whole application
process, the student earns credit for those courses and is no longer required to take them. Application for advance credit without validation is not for transfer students from the UP System as crediting of their
courses will be done by the college SRE and validated by the OUR SRE.
Note that there is a related but different procedure called Validation for Advance Credit. (See the UPD Academic Calendar for the schedule.) For details on Validation for Advance Credit, such as
schedule, procedure, and requirements, please inquire at the department/unit offering the course. The details below are only about Advance Credit Without Validation.
  Qualification | The applicant must be either (A) a second degree student or (B) a transferee from a university not part of the UP system who has earned at least 66 academic units in his/her former college or university. |
Processing period | Second month of the semester (October for the 1st Semester and March for the 2nd Semester) |
